The Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions (FSSS) has announced the launch of GroundBreakers, a new youth-focused initiative designed to inspire, equip and connect young Nigerians with opportunities across agriculture, agribusiness and agricultural technology.
The initiative debuts with GroundBreakers Live 2026, a two-day virtual webinar series commemorating International Youth Day, under the theme “Connecting Youth, Innovation, and the Future of Food.” Scheduled for 12 and 13 August 2026, the event will bring together leading voices from Nigeria’s AgriTECH, agribusiness, innovation and development sectors to engage with young people on the future of agriculture.
GroundBreakers was established in response to some of the most pressing challenges facing Nigeria’s agricultural sector: an ageing farming population, an underutilisation of technology and the urgent need to attract, prepare and empower a new generation of agricultural innovators and entrepreneurs.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with food insecurity, climate change and rising unemployment, FSSS believes that young people represent the country’s greatest opportunity to build a more productive, resilient and sustainable food system.
According to Isaiah Gabriel, Executive Director of FSSS, the initiative reflects the Foundation’s long-term commitment to making agriculture a viable and rewarding career pathway for young Nigerians.
“Nigeria’s agricultural future depends on how effectively we engage today’s young people. Through GroundBreakers, we want to show that agriculture is no longer defined by traditional practices alone. It is increasingly driven by innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and bold ideas. Our vision is to see a Nigeria where agriculture becomes a meaningful source of livelihood for young people while contributing significantly to national food security.”
The inaugural edition of GroundBreakers Live is expected to attract between 200 and 500 participants from across Nigeria and beyond, including students, recent graduates, young agripreneurs, AgriTECH enthusiasts, youth-led businesses, agricultural professionals, innovation hubs and development practitioners.
The webinar series will feature industry experts, entrepreneurs, innovators, and development professionals who are transforming agriculture through technology, enterprise, and sustainable business models.
The first session, “Future of Food: How Technology is Transforming Agriculture,” will hold on 12 August 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Participants will explore emerging agricultural technologies, artificial intelligence, precision agriculture, climate-smart innovations, digital agriculture and career opportunities within the growing AgriTECH ecosystem.
The second session, “Building Profitable Agribusinesses in the Digital Age,” scheduled for 13 August 2026, will focus on practical strategies for starting and scaling agribusinesses, accessing finance, developing markets, leveraging digital marketing, and building sustainable enterprises. Participants will also hear first-hand experiences from successful agripreneurs.
Each webinar will feature moderated panel conversations, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and practical insights designed to help participants translate ideas into action.
Through GroundBreakers Live, FSSS aims to increase awareness of emerging opportunities within agriculture, expose young people to innovations transforming food systems, promote entrepreneurship and employment, strengthen connections between youth and industry leaders, and inspire a new generation to contribute to resilient and sustainable agriculture.
The Foundation expects the initiative to build a growing community of young innovators who will continue learning, collaborating, and driving agricultural transformation long after the webinar series concludes.
Young people across Nigeria who are passionate about agriculture, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable food systems are encouraged to register and participate in this free virtual event.
