Reuben Solomon is a Senior Agronomist at the Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions (FSSS) with over 20 years of experience in dryland cropping systems, cereal and legume agronomy, and agricultural research and technology development. He holds a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Pest Management Technology from Mohammet Lawan College of Agriculture, Maiduguri; a Postgraduate Diploma in Crop Production from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; an MSc in Agronomy (Crops and Cropping Systems in the Drylands) from Bayero University, Kano; and a PhD in the same field, completed in 2025.

Prior to joining FSSS, he built a distinguished career at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), where he led and supervised research trials in maize physiology, soil fertility management, conservation agriculture, and cereal–legume systems. He also played a key role in farmer-focused research, graduate student training, and capacity building for students from tertiary institutions. His project experience includes work on PROSAB (CIDA), FARA’s Sudan Savanna Task Force Programme, the Tropical Legume II and Integrated Striga Management for Africa projects funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project funded by the Islamic Development Bank.

Mr Solomon has authored and co-authored 10 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is skilled in the use of decision support tools, including DSSAT modelling, alongside standard analytical software. He is widely recognised for his strong research leadership, mentoring ability, and collaborative work with farmers, researchers, development partners, and the private sector to advance sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture in Africa.
