2025 International Day of Education: FSSS Launches 2024 Impact Report

Abuja, Nigeria: In honour of the 2025 International Day of Education, the Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions (FSSS) is proud to announce the release of its 2024 Impact Report, highlighting the critical role of education in advancing sustainable agricultural practices and empowering smallholder farmers across Nigeria.

The International Day of Education celebrates the transformative power of knowledge in building a sustainable future. At FSSS, this mission takes shape through initiatives that deliver knowledge, skills, and tools to smallholder farmers, ensuring they can overcome challenges, increase productivity, and achieve economic stability.

2024: A Year of Growth and Resilience

Despite significant challenges, including environmental disruptions, economic pressures, and an organisational transition, FSSS achieved several milestones in 2024. These include:

  • Expanding Reach: Engaging over 70,000 farmers and extending operations to new regions.
  • Strengthening Climate Resilience: Delivering training in sustainable farming practices and climate-adaptive techniques.
  • Improving Market Access: Supporting farmers with digital tools to connect with buyers and reduce barriers to trade.

The Foundation’s Farmers’ Hubs served as focal points for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, equipping farmers with resources and fostering community-driven solutions.

Reflecting on the year, Timothy Azakere, Country Team Lead at FSSS, said:
“2024 was a year of challenges and transformation, but also one of tremendous learning and growth. Our rebranding and restructuring process strengthened our identity and deepened our focus on empowering smallholder farmers through education and sustainable practices. Despite drought, economic pressures, and logistical hurdles, our team and farming communities proved their resilience time and again.”

Looking Ahead to 2025

With the strategic theme for 2025, “GROWING TOGETHER: Nurturing People, Planet, and Prosperity,” FSSS is doubling down on its commitment to education as the cornerstone of sustainable development. The Foundation aims to engage an additional 85,000 farmers, expand operations into Plateau, Ondo, and the South-East, and invest in post-harvest infrastructure to enhance food security and farmer livelihoods.

“Our mission has always been about more than just increasing yields,” said Azakere. “We’re investing in the people behind the farms, equipping them with the knowledge, tools, and networks they need to thrive. Education is a powerful lever for change, and by sharing sustainable farming practices and building climate resilience, we’re creating a foundation for long-term prosperity.”

Looking ahead, Azakere emphasised the importance of collaboration:
“In 2025, we’re not just focusing on expansion; we’re deepening partnerships with government bodies, research institutions, and private sector players to amplify our impact. Together, we can empower more farmers to become resilient drivers of food security and economic growth.”

As the Foundation celebrates its achievements, it looks ahead to 2025 with a renewed focus on its mission to transform smallholder agriculture in Nigeria.
