FSSS Partners with Heineken Africa Foundation to Strengthen Climate Resilience in Bauchi State

The Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions (FSSS) has partnered with the Heineken Africa Foundation (HAF) to deliver a three-year, HAF-funded programme that will promote climate-smart resilience and regenerative agriculture across seven Local Government Areas in Bauchi North Senatorial District.

Titled Empowerment of Smallholders to Thrive and Build Climate Resilience through Regenerative Agriculture (ESTRRA), the initiative aims to support 14,000 smallholder farmers — with a particular focus on women and young people — to adopt regenerative practices, increase economic productivity and build sustainable livelihoods.

“ESTRRA provides an opportunity to equip smallholder farmers with the knowledge and resources they need to adapt to a changing climate,” said Isaiah Gabriel, Executive Director of FSSS.

“Through capacity building, the Farmers’ Hub Model, and stronger market linkages, we aim to build resilient farming communities that enhance food security and sustainable livelihoods across Northern Bauchi.”

He added that “this initiative brings us closer to our vision of a Nigeria where smallholder farming drives inclusive growth and prosperity.”

Edwin Moerkerk, General Manager at HAF, added: “We look forward to working with FSSS to strengthen the resilience of Nigeria’s smallholder farming communities. Our goal is to connect farmers with the right resources and networks, enabling them to grow sustainably.

“Our vision is that African smallholder farmers can prosper, securing a sustainable food system for all. Together with FSSS, we can build a stronger, more resilient future.”

The project will roll out through the Farmers’ Hub Model to improve access to quality inputs, training, and markets, while promoting inclusive and environmentally friendly farming practices. Key activities will include farmer training in regenerative techniques, input demonstrations, group strengthening for women and youth, and market linkages to enhance incomes.
