As Nigeria’s farming season gains momentum, access to quality agricultural inputs remains one of the most critical factors determining the levels of productivity and profitability of smallholders. To address this challenge, the Foundation (FSSS), through its partner, Rhizosphere Agro Nigeria Limited and with funding support from the HEINEKEN Africa Foundation (HAF), successfully distributed agro-inputs to the newly established Farmers’ Hubs across Northern Bauchi State under the ESTRRA Project.
The distribution exercise, conducted between the 4th and 6th of June 2026, reached six Farmers’ Hubs located across Katagum, Zaki, Giade, Itas-Gadau, and Jama’are Local Government Areas. The intervention was designed to ensure that smallholder farmers have timely access to quality agricultural products while strengthening community-based agricultural service delivery systems.
The ESTRRA Project promotes a hub-based agricultural development model that brings essential services closer to rural farming communities. Through these Farmers’ Hubs, farmers can access quality agrochemicals, fertilisers, seeds, advisory services, and market support without travelling long distances. The distribution covered the hubs in the following communities: Gambaki, Bulkachuwa, Chibiyaye, Diga, Dogon-Jeji, and Kurba.

The distribution included a wide range of agricultural inputs tailored to the production needs of farmers within the participating communities. A total of 177 agro-input items, comprising cartons of chemicals, bags of fertilisers, and equipment units valued at over ₦10 million, were distributed across the six hubs. The inputs included herbicides, seed treatment products, fertilisers, crop protection products, and knapsack sprayers. These supplies will support improved crop establishment, weed control, nutrient management, and crop protection for smallholder farmers. The timely provision of these inputs will ensure that farmers can access the resources required for improved crop establishment, weed management, nutrient application, and crop protection throughout the growing season.
Beyond the distribution itself, the Rhizosphere Agro and FSSS Business Development Teams provided training for Hub Managers on record keeping, stock management, costing, pricing, and accountability systems. These sessions were aimed at strengthening the operational and business capacity of the hubs to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The agro-input distribution exercise represents another important milestone in the implementation of the ESTRRA Project, as the timely availability of quality agricultural inputs is expected to improve access to quality inputs, contribute significantly to improved farming outcomes during the current farming season, and enhance the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. As implementation of the project continues, FSSS, Rhizosphere Agro Nigeria Limited, and the Heineken Africa Foundation remain committed to supporting sustainable agricultural development and building resilient farming communities across Northern Bauchi.
